“We Are…Curing Autism Now” Initiative Surpasses $300,000 Prior To 3rd Event Event Creators Cite Community Support As Reason For Tremendous Success University Park, Pa. – The Third Annual “We Are … Curing Autism Now 5K Race/3K Walk” fund-raising event, will be held Saturday, April 12 2008, in downtown State College, PA.
Event Creators, Andrew Moses (PSU ’07) and Adam Dorfman (PSU ’07), announced today that the event has raised more than $300,000 since its inception in 2006. Penn State chapters of Beta Sigma Beta Fraternity, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, & Sigma Delta Tau Sorority team up with the Autism Speaks Foundation to coordinate this event, whose proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks.
Last year, in the event’s second year, over 750 people participated helping to raise $201,000 for the Autism Speaks Foundation following up the event’s $91,000 campaign in 2006. The event is the second highest-grossing fundraising event at Penn State behind nationally recognized Dance MaraTHON. The organizing committee expects this years event to be an even greater success.
Magnum Broadcasting -- owner of FM stations 105.9 JoeFM and 106.9 The Surge, as well as WBLF 970 AM and WPHB 1260 AM -- is the official media partner for the “We Are … Curing Autism Now” Race/Walk for the 3rd consecutive year.
On-site registration for the “We Are…Curing Autism Now 5K Race/3K Walk” begins at 11 a.m. on April 12. Step-off is at 12 p.m. on S. Allen Street (corner of Beaver Ave/Allen St—outside the State College Borough Municipal Building—243 S. Allen Street). Parking is available in two large parking garages one block from the registration site. Both garages are in the general vicinity of Beaver Ave. and Fraser Street. Registration is $15. Participants are encouraged to raise money in support of their racing efforts and the overall event.
Online donations and registration will be accepted at www.psuautismspeaks.org . However, participants are allowed to register on-site on event day as well.
